Bride and Beautiful |
|
Whether you're a church, beach or garden bride, your make-up should look radiant and natural. BOEY PING PING picks up some tips from the experts.
WEDDINGS don't always have to take place indoors. Garden nuptials and beach weddings are gaining popularity here as we're blessed with greenery and the sea on most sides. While the idea of being surrounded by nature as you say your vows sounds like a breath of fresh air, not being in control of the climate can wreak havoc for your make-up artist. Cindy Chang, co-owner of Beauty Haven says, ''When you're under broad daylight, flaws can easily be seen. A good skincare regime from the very beginning is essential as healthy skin provides the perfect canvas for beautiful make-up.'' Director of national make-up artist for Kanebo, Sam Kian Ping recommends colours that are light and natural to bring out the true beauty of the bride. Natural, earth-tones are the best as they remain timeless and elegant, long after your wedding is over.
Princess charming
Even if you hold your wedding indoors, M.A.C make-up artist, Syahidah says, ''It's best to use long-wearing mascara that's smudge proof and flake proof so that it will last the whole day.''
Eyes: Put a sparkle on your eyes with Stila Eye Shadow Palette, a trio of base, crease and liner shades.
Face: Make all your dreams come true with Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse, an air-whipped foundation that's so light and airy, you won't feel like you're wearing a 'mask' of foundation. Plus it has particles that create a soft focus effect, helping to mask flaws, fine lines and wrinkles.
Lips: Go light on the glitter or you'll be competing with your dress for attention. Estee Lauder's Pure Colour Lipstick in Azalea offers subtle shimmer without too much shine.
Nails: Add a little romance to your fingertips with O.P.I's soft shades of pink nail lacquer. Enchant Prince Charming with 'Princesses Rule!', a bright sparkly pink with royal presence.
Hair: Hairspray helps keep traditional up-dos in place.
In full bloom
The best nail colour for any type of wedding, says Chang, is a French manicure that can be painted either pink or beige to suit your dress. She suggests using pretty, pastel colours on the eyes but Sam says it's alright to use blue eyeshadow on fair skin and green eyeshadow on darker skin to blend in with the environment.
Eyes: A mellow, pastel blue lends a soft touch to your peepers. Kate Highlight Flash highlights eyes in a flash.
Face: Aim for a soft, dewy look. Red Earth's loose powder, Face 'N Glow in 'pink princess' contains ultra-fine mica particles that highlight the face with a soft, luminous glow.
Lips: Lip stains and lip glosses help create transparent, juicy-looking puckers. Kanebo Testimo Serumdrape Rouge stains lips while keeping lips moist and plump.
Nails: Take your nails from plain to gorgeous French-manicured nails with SilkyGirl Snow White nail colour.
Hair: Whether you decide to have your hair up or down, dainty, white flowers add a romantic feel to your crowning glory.
She says her vows on the seashore
''You'll be sweating a lot so you'll need lots of waterproof products,'' advises Chang. Sam adds that they also need to be long-lasting. Chang suggests using bronzing powder to bring out your natural glow. The goal is to create a sun-kissed look. ''And don't forget your sunblock,'' she warns.
Eyes: Make both your marriage and your eyeliner last. Besides being waterproof, you'll need a liner that won't smudge, budge or fade before the ceremony is over. M.A.C Liquidlast Liner in Auto-Orange combines long-lasting wear with smear-free lines.
Face: Put a hold on perspiration, sebum and pores with Lancome Maquiliquide UV Perfect Forever SPF15/PA++. This liquid foundation works all day to 'catch' and absorb sweat and oil while providing UV protection. On dark skin, foundations that are too light tend to give a washed out, mouldy look. Bronzing powders fare better than foundation at bringing out the glow. Light pink or peachy blushers work well on fair skin but on medium to dark skin tones, earth tones look better.
Lips: Glossy, transparent lips are the best way to show up a sun-kissed complexion. The Body Shop Hi-Shine Lip Treatment in 'mauve dream' creates mouth-watering lips he won’t be able to resist.
Nails: Create talons of desire with Revlon Nail Enamel in the oh-so-natural shade of Nude Attitude.
Hair: Go easy on the hairspray as the goal is to create soft, flowy, dreamy hair.
