Apart from rejuvenating your appearance, a good relaxing facial can also do wonders for your psychological well-being
You have an established skin care routine and your skin looks just fine to you Do you still need to go for a facial? The answer is “Yes!”, according to New York Skin Solutions branch manager and therapist, Lim Lu Sun (pictured).
And she says the younger you start, the better.
Style speaks to the beauty therapist on what the fuss about facials is all about.
Why is it necessary for me to go to a facial?
The right kind of facial can do wonders for both your skin and your mental well-being. But basically, a facial should deep cleanse, exfoliate and prep your skin for a variety of treatments.
There are many types of facial treatments available today, from detoxification programmes to collagen infusions and deep hydration treatments.
A good relaxing facial is a great way to de-stress and relax. Afterwards you would feel pampered and refreshed, ready to face another day!
What if i have very good skin? do i still need skin treatments? A facial treatment isn’t only good for curing problems, but also for maintenance. If you have good skin, you would want to maintain it.
As your skin ages, your collagen production and skin renewal process slow down.
Facials can help to delay the appearance of problems like hyper-pigmentation and wrinkles.
At what age should i start going for facial treatments? You can start going as soon as you reach puberty, especially if you’re beginning to experience teenage acne.
Otherwise, you can start having monthly facials between the ages of 16 and 18.
How often do i need to go for a facial? If you have dehydrated, oily or other skin problems, it may be as often as once a fortnight.
Otherwise, once a month is good enough for general maintenance.
What should i do at home in between facials to take care of my skin? It is very important to have the three basic steps in your skincare regimen: cleanse, tone and moisturise.
Use sunblock as exposure to the sun can cause photo damage and pigmentation.
Extras like eye cream, skin repair serums and others would depend on your age and skin condition.
We would advise you to go to a good skin consultant to determine your skin type and the right products for you.
What other factors contribute to good skin? Your eating and sleeping habits are very important, obviously.
Not many people know this, but the optimal time for skin repair and renewal is between 11pm to 1am.
So try to go to sleep early.
And everyone knows this one, but drinking lots of water and having plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables make a difference.
